Veterans' Day: Giving Thanks 11.11.11

Today is special for many reasons, the least of which is that it’s Friday.

For the first and last time this century, the calendar reads all ones.  Happy 11.11.11!  Make a wish. 

Being as it is also Veterans’ Day, I sincerely hope your wish was along the lines of “World Peace,” not a million dollars, a great body or the perfect mate.

We wanted to take a moment out of our busy day to thank all the members of the military (current and retired), their families and civilians working on military bases for their hard work, dedication and sacrifice.

At EnvyTan, one of our facilities is located in a military town, adjacent to a military base.  There is not a single person here whose life is not impacted by these service members.  They are our friends and loved ones.  Everyone knows someone on the base.

As we look forward to enjoying the weekend ahead, please take a moment to thank the military.

Tuscaloosa: Spray Tanning Relief

Turn on your TV, computer or radio and you can’t miss the recent natural disasters.

Most recently, two “out of the blue” tornados touched down in Springville, Massachusetts, a city known for “firsts,” including the first American-English dictionary, Smith & Wesson, and the birthplace of basketball. But before Springfield, there was Joplin; and before Joplin, Tuscaloosa.

It has been thirty-seven days now since the storm destroyed the homes and lives of more than 93,000 people in Alabama.

This is the inspirational story of one woman’s attempt to save her city and rebuild a community.

Last year, Christi Nichols started her own business, Tuscaloosa Mobile Spray Tans, never dreaming to use it as a relief project. In the days after the tornado, Christi ordered her usual supplies and left a heartfelt plea on the memo line:

Tuscaloosa Alabama was hit April 27th and I’m donating a part of my services to the Tuscaloosa Tornado Relief fund... Our City was wiped out and most lost homes, children, mothers and fathers, and business are all gone, animals are wondering around with nothing... I’m ordering what I can, but I just wanted to ask if you could donate solution you can't sell so I can give to those in need here... It’s a crisis here and we here in Tuscaloosa need all the help possible... Do you think you can help our city in any way.... Any help from you would be so appreciated....

Christi’s order was packed and shipped. Several days went by, her comment unanswered.

Little did she know what we were working on.

EnvyCares is the charitable arm of EnvyTan, Inc. One of our monthly donations is awarded to The Red Cross, a well-deserving organization. The Red Cross provides assistance to victims or all disasters and tornados are no different. And people of Tornado Alley are all too familiar with the Red Cross.

EnvyCares reviewed Christi’s comments and were touched…one woman trying to save the city.

EnvyTan, through EnvyCares, has partnered with Christi in her efforts to rebuild. We donated our solutions and shipped them to her in Alabama, where she will continue business as usual, now with an unselfish goal. As part of the relief effort, Christi (and EnvyTan) is donating proceeds from her tans to the Tuscaloosa Tornado Relief Fund. We applaud Christi and are thrilled to be part of the rebuilding efforts.

Susan G. Komen: 2011 “3-Day For The Cure”

EnvyTan is thrilled to announce that we will be participating in the 2011 Susan G. Komen “3-Day For The Cure!” This fall, as a team, we will be walking 60 miles over the course of three days with thousands of other women and men.

We chose to participate in this walk a long, long time ago to honor the memory of the late Laureana Robertson, a wonderful and loving grandmother. She passed away at age 52 from Breast Cancer, so we are committed to this cause on a very personal level. Somewhere in the world, a woman dies from breast cancer every 69 seconds. That's why we’re walking so far. To do something bold about breast cancer. We hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with us - by supporting us in our fundraising efforts.

Net proceeds from the 3-Day for the Cure fund innovative global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment. Virtually every major advance in the fight against breast cancer in the last 28 years has been impacted by a Komen for the Cure grant.
