The “Spring Break Season” is just around the corner!  You know what that means… co-eds lining up around the block for spray tans!

Here are a few tips:

Spray Tanning: Winter-White Skin

Who doesn’t love winter-white skin?!  *insert eye roll*

Spray tanning and using sunless products are the best ways to add a little glow to your winter wonderland body.  Try EnvyTan’s Lasting Envy: Spray Tan in a Can ($24).  Fabulous color and easy application make it ideal for everyone. 

Lasting Envy has a 12% DHA level.  For those of you who don’t know, DHA is the active ingredient in spray tans and sunless products that reacts with the skin and is responsible for the color change we call a sunless tan.  12% is perfect for people who already have color, whether that means naturally medium-dark skin or skin kissed by the sun.  People with fairer skin should be a bit more conservative when using Lasting Envy (or any 12% product)—you don’t want to go overboard!

 

So what happens if you do?

There are many at-home ways to remove a spray tan.

My favorite is to apply baby oil to the affected areas. Allow this to soak in for about 45 minutes. Then soak in a warm/hot bath and use a loofah to buff away the offending tan. It may take more than one trip to the tub, but it will definitely get you where you want to be.

You can also try exfoliating with scrubs, applying lemon juice to fade the tan, or rubbing baking soda into damp skin to even out discolored or streaky patches.

 

Tips for next time?

Always be sure you follow the directions for sunless products.  When it says “Exfoliate,” make sure you exfoliate!  Those instructions are on there for a reason, not just to take up space.  Exfoliating your entire body sloughs off dead skin cells, allowing the tan to be applied to the freshest cells possible, which makes for a more even, longer-lasting tan.  Grab a container of Ambush: Pre-Tan Exfoliating Scrub ($26) for fabulous (not to mention deliciously-scented) results. 

Try to avoid using tons of product on dry areas of the body.  Elbows and knees can soak up self tanner like nobody’s business—leaving you with “oompa-loompa pox!”

 

Don't forget... if you ever have a question or concern, it's easiest to address it before the tan is applied, rather than attempt to fix it after!

Tanning Tip:  Glitter drops are “day of” products meaning they will wash off in the first post-tan shower.  To reapply, simply add the glitter drop of choice to a small amount of distilled or bottled water and spray through your HVLP equipment!! Do not, I repeat, do not add cookie sprinkles to your spray tanning solution.  Yucko-bucko!

Holiday Hours: Wrapping Up 2011!

It’s mid-December.  Snow has already worn out its welcome; a new year is on the horizon.  Businesses are gearing up for a few days off (if they’re lucky); employees have their fingers crossed for a hard-earned holiday bonus (not a surprise enrollment in the jelly of the month club)!  Students across the nation are rolling into finals week, wrapping up the semester—soon to be rolling home and wrapping gifts!  With only a few days left until crunch time, many people are scrambling.

If you’re like me, you stay out of the stores as much as possible.  Holiday shopping always seems like a great idea…until I’m elbow to elbow with a hundred other people who also thought holiday shopping seemed like a great idea.

Spray Tanning: Winter Skin

 

Winter skin is no one's friend.  Pale, dry, itchy and flaky, it drives us crazy waiting for summertime…and it’s only the first week of December!

If you can’t celebrate the holiday season in the Bahamas, bring the Bahamas to you—or at least to your skin.  Spray tanning is a great (and healthy) way to put some life into your winter-white skin. 

Be sure you treat your skin right, even in the off season.  Healthy, hydrated skin rocks a bangin’ spray tan.  Moisturize your skin as often as necessary and drink plenty of water; it’s good for your insides and outsides.

Solutions: Seasonal Selection

 

Unless you live in an area that has the same climate all year, you know when the seasons change.  And that time of the year is upon us.  Gone are the mini-skirts, flip flops and tiny tees.  Enter jeans, boots, and chunky knit sweaters—don’t worry, I believe this is the year of the sexy “off the shoulder” style sweater!

Veterans' Day: Giving Thanks 11.11.11

Today is special for many reasons, the least of which is that it’s Friday.

For the first and last time this century, the calendar reads all ones.  Happy 11.11.11!  Make a wish. 

Being as it is also Veterans’ Day, I sincerely hope your wish was along the lines of “World Peace,” not a million dollars, a great body or the perfect mate.

We wanted to take a moment out of our busy day to thank all the members of the military (current and retired), their families and civilians working on military bases for their hard work, dedication and sacrifice.

At EnvyTan, one of our facilities is located in a military town, adjacent to a military base.  There is not a single person here whose life is not impacted by these service members.  They are our friends and loved ones.  Everyone knows someone on the base.

As we look forward to enjoying the weekend ahead, please take a moment to thank the military.

Spray Tans: Make Your Spray Tan Smell Vanish!

It’s Halloween and everyone knows it’s one of those times when girls go wild!  Today, it’s not really about the scariest or most creative costume.  It’s all about who’s hot and who’s not.  After all, it’s one of those few days a year that girls can go all out in the sexy-department and no one can judge her, because…well…hey, it’s Halloween.

So you’ve got your teeniest, tiniest, tightest black leather mini-skirt, black thigh-high boots and black bustier on, topped off with a witch hat.  Watch out!  Sexy witch, comin’ through! 

Let’s say, you decided to amp up the sexy factor with a spray tan.  But—ut oh—in your real life, you’re a overworked, cubicle dwelling accountant who didn’t have time to get a tan until 3 hours before the PAR-TAY!  No problem.

You were smart and grabbed Disguised.  Disguised: DHA Odor Neutralizing Spray ($24) kept your spray tan a secret!  By misting yourself with Disguised (as soon as 1 hour) post spray tan, you made that dead giveaway, that infamous spray tan smell, vanish!   Spritz, spritz, poof! Gone.

Spray Tans: Halloween Costumes

 

With Halloween only one week away, Cyberspace is full of questions like “I need to be tan for my sexy witch costume.  Help.” And thanks to MTV, “I want to be Snooki for Halloween.  Can I spray tan to look like her?”

First things first.  You will need to decide if you want your tan to last a few days or if you want to wash it off the next day.

If you want to wash it off, you have two options:  1) Training Solution ($18/pint) and 2) Competition Solution ($30/pint).  But which one is right for you?  Because there is no DHA in training or competition solutions, they will both wash off during your next shower.

Training Solution (0% Superficial or 0% Withdrawal) is simply a bronzer.  Its main purpose is to teach technicians how to apply a spray tan.  However, it would also work for a one-night-only spray tan.  Because it is just bronzer, you will need to avoid coming in contact with water, so if you’re planning on entering a wild wet t-shirt contest…this is not the tan you want.

Competition solution, also 0% (Deadly or Intervention), is an extremely dark solution specially engineered for the bulging world of body building.  It can hold up to bright lights, body oils and perspiration.  Great for gettin’ your groove on and showin’ off the 6-pack Situation, still not ideal for wet t-shirt contests.  And when we say dark… we mean bodybuilder dark.

If you are a fan of lasting tans, be sure you get a spray tan with a DHA based solution.  These are your everyday spray tanning solutions.  Every good technician knows that for the best spray tan results, you should always stick with solutions made for your natural skin tone.  Go too dark or too light, and you’ll end up with oompa-loompa tan, which may or may not be the result you are after, depending on your costume.  With DHA based solutions, be prepared to wear you tan for a few days at the minimum—choose wisely when you realize you will still look like Snooki on November 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd.

However you decide to achieve that perfect tan for your costume, be ready for a rockin’ time!
